Family Initiative becomes first in Florida to offer caregiver trainings in Spanish

CAPE CORAL, FL (November 9, 2021) – Family Initiative, an autism and child welfare community services organization based in Cape Coral, Florida, recently became the first organization in Florida to present vital caregiver trainings for Spanish speaking families. Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI uses Empowering Principles to address physical and environmental needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs and engagement, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. While the intervention is based on years of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience research, the heartbeat of TBRI is connection.

“We are excited to expand support for Spanish-speaking families,” said David Brown, president and founder of Family Initiative. “We’re working everyday to remove barriers for healthy families.”

“There aren’t many Spanish-speaking TBRI practitioners,” said Rosali Costas, TBRI Practitioner and Family Specialist in Family Initiative’s Miami office. “Hispanic and Latino communities deserve the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge that TBRI can provide.”

Spanish-language TBRI Caregiver Trainings were hosted virtually and in collaboration with the Citrus Family Care Network, Miami’s lead agency for child welfare. The program is part of Family Initiative’s mission to support the whole family and arm caregivers with the tools they need to be successful, whether they are foster, adoptive, or biological parents.
