Punta Gorda, Fla. (August 4, 2026) – Dr. Temple Grandin, world-renowned author, autism advocate, and professor of animal science, will visit Southwest Florida on Saturday, August 22, for a free event as part of Family Initiative’s Parent Group Speaker Series at Babcock Ranch.
The event is part of Family Initiative’s ongoing monthly Speaker Series, which focuses on building understanding, access, and belonging for individuals with different abilities. It will take place at 1 p.m. at the Babcock Ranch Field House, 43281 Cypress Parkway, Punta Gorda, FL 33982. Dr. Grandin’s talk, titled “Great Minds Are Not All the Same,” will offer her firsthand perspective on living with autism and the importance of focusing on strengths rather than limitations. Drawing from her personal experiences and decades of advocacy, she will discuss early intervention, developing practical skills, preparing individuals for meaningful employment, and creating opportunities for greater independence and success.
A book signing will follow the presentation.
The event is free and open to the public, and registration is required. Given the Babcock Ranch Field House’s capacity of 2,000, Family Initiative encourages the community to register early, as strong turnout is expected.

Dr. Temple Grandin is a professor of animal science at Colorado State University, a best-selling author, and one of the most well-known and influential advocates for autism awareness in the world.
